The word count view is an interesting form of literary analysis.

It gives you a very narrow but data driven view of what is important to the character based on what they say. Using this we can see how Jack truly is the leader of the island based on how he spreads his concern around. Kate really does think more about Jack than Sawyer.
And Hurley says dude a lot.

Microsoft's doing some crazy stuff with augmented reality in their maps.
As we get more and more geolocated data out into the cloud we start being able some really interesting things with it. I think I'm coming down on the side of panopticists (is that a word) that as long as everyone has access to this technology it is a force for good.

Toonlet tutorials. An excellent introduction to how to use the excellent comic strip service toonlet.com.
I would do more toonleting but there is an bug with chrome. But if you use firefox or ie and have a desire to make web comics you should totally check it out.
Can You Trust a Facebook Profile? (via @JamieMadigan) Spoilers! People are actually honest.

I think this is a real upside with the sharing that goes on with social media. A strengthened social contract. Since one of the big problems with multiplayer gaming, hopefully this effect will ripple through. An end to privacy? Maybe. An end to asshattery? Hopefully.

Starcraft 2 beta starts today. Hear what the devs have to say about it. :-P (via @ellerythejones)
Yes, yes, I know this is the sardonic joke version.
"Foggy memories of LOST" (via @io9) no spoilers, but cute images.
I like the one with Michael shouting "WALT!!!" because that is all he seemed to do.

I never thought I'd know so much about prequel cannon. But Lex loves his clone wars.

Today he said he wanted a Play Station. "Why? We already have a Wii and and a 360?"
"I want to play Lego Star Wars." he responded.
"But you already HAVE Lego Star Wars on both systems!" This is why kids don't have money (says the guy who bough Lego Star Wars for the Wii and the 360).

As gamers grow up we get "The Daddening Of Video Games".

A lot of reasons get explored in this article. Though honestly I think it may just be that the median age of gaming has gotten older. Narratively we want to explore content that relates to our lives.
There was no malice, Marvel just made nonsensical signs. Really.

Captain America SHOULD take on the Teabaggers. "Where's your healthcare NOW?" *PUNCH IN THE MOUTH*

The Ships of EVE Online (and their cost in USD and in hours played) You lose these if you die.

So much that I like about the user generated drama of Eve. If only the combat wasn't a snoozefest.

The tasty snack that doesn't also bite you!
I had seen this film a few years back and watched it over and over. Then yesterday someone forwarded it to me again. I love when things come full circle.

After all the cynicism about all the new stuff that was invented @judith sent me this:

Hey look everyone I know who I can't see but can hear the thoughts I project into the void! I can do amazing things with this collection of ones and zeros that those geniuses down the road put together, FOR FREE!
It helps me feel included even though I don't get to go out much because I'm a single parent, it let's me learn new ways to do things because I shout into the clouds and I get answers!
But It's only 30% better than the miracles that we already have. *yawn*

$2 Deluxe Hugs. Much better than stinky free hugs.
As someone who gives out hugs, I totally appreciate charging for the deluxe hugs. Also notice that the guy giving out the free hugs thought he was doing it to make people's lives better, but was one of the humorless people around.
Don't get me wrong, I do like Mass Effect and think it is a good game. But still...

There are many little structural problems that bug me about it. From the meaningless choices in conversation that all converge onto the same plot outcome, to the lack of any dramatic tension in the paragon/renegade choices; I get this feeling that I'm having a blast riding the world's most successful dinosaur.

Wes Anderson's Spider-Man.
I liked Rushmore a lot. But I think that whomever takes over the films need to know how to direct action.

Lost on ‘Lost’: Lost explained by people who haven't seen it.
Writing for a massively multiplayer game I appreciate these videos that show how story can get communicated to people who aren't even paying attention.

San Francisco’s Answer to Westboro Baptist Church. For all its problems, I love San Francisco.

If only the merry pranksters could follow the Westboro Baptist Church around all the time. Though considering they like to protest funerals I could see the merry pranksters getting less and less merry.
Lex made 100 Mini Legofigs for his 100 day project.

So to combat the problems I'm facing, Microsoft has released a game. (via @joshleejosh)
Microsoft I am both impressed by you, and hate you.
